The Gili Islands are a short boat ride from Bali and are one of the most popular destinations in all of Indonesia. Three tiny islands with no motorized vehicles — just horses, bikes, and your feet. The water is crystal clear turquoise and the snorkeling is some of the best in the world.
We booked a fast boat from Canggu and were there in under 2 hours. The boat ride itself was an adventure — the waves were massive and we were soaked by the time we arrived. Worth every drop.
The highlight was snorkeling with sea turtles. Not one turtle, but three. They were enormous and completely unbothered by us floating alongside them. It's one of those moments you can't really describe — you just have to be there.
Back at the Dojo we hosted our first BBQ, which quickly turned into a 40-person party. The expat community here is remarkable. Within two weeks I know more people in Bali than I knew in my first year in DTLA.
